What AI app builders really cost a 10-person team

By Jason Santiago, founder · Updated 2026-10-17 · 9 min read

The short answer

For a 10-person team where 3 people build and 7 only use the apps, listed base prices in October 2026 range from about $25 a month for a shared-credit AI builder to $255 or more for platforms that charge every app user. The base price is rarely the real cost: usage-based credits and tokens vary with how hard the AI works, some platforms charge for every person who opens an app, and security features often sit on higher plans. Model your own team before you compare.

Pricing pages are built to answer one question: what is the cheapest way to start? A finance lead needs the answer to a different one: what will this cost my team, every month, once people are actually using it? Those two numbers can be very far apart.

This guide works out the second number for one common setup: a 10-person team where 3 people build tools and 7 people only use them. It uses prices as listed on each vendor's own pages in October 2026, shows the math, and then covers the costs no pricing page shows. Prices change often, so check each vendor's page before you decide.

The assumptions

Every figure below uses the same team so the comparison is fair.

  • 10 people in total.
  • 3 builders: people who create and change tools.
  • 7 app users: people who only use the tools, such as technicians, front desk staff or crew leads.
  • Monthly prices where the vendor lists them, with the annual-billing price noted where listed.
  • Base cost only: what the plan costs before any usage beyond the included allowance. Usage-based charges for credits, tokens or workload vary with how much you build and how often the AI has to try again, and are covered separately below.
  • Per-user charges for app users are included only where the vendor lists them. Where a vendor lists no per-user charge for app users, the table says so.

AI app builders

These tools build apps from plain-language descriptions. Most charge for building through credits or tokens.

Internal tool and low-code platforms

These platforms are older or more hands-on, and several charge for the people who use the apps.

Platform and plan (as listed in October 2026)Math for 3 builders and 7 app usersBase monthly costWhat to know
Retool Business3 x $50 + 7 x $15$255 billed annually ($321 monthly: 3 x $65 + 7 x $18)Internal app users pay; audit logs start at Business; SSO and SCIM are Enterprise only
Power Apps Premium10 x $20$200, paid yearlyThe people who run the apps need a license too
Power Apps pay-as-you-go$10 per active user per app$100 per app if all 10 use itThree apps used by everyone would be $300
AppSheet10 x $5, $10 or $20$50, $100 or $200Every app user, including guests, needs a license; Core is included in most paid Google Workspace plans
Airtable Team3 editors x $20, if the 7 only read$60 billed annually ($72 monthly)Read-only collaborators are free; anyone who edits pays. If all 10 edit: $200 ($240 monthly)
Softr ProPlan price$99 billed yearly ($119 monthly)Each plan caps the people who can log in to your apps; extra app users billed monthly on Pro and above
Glide Classic BusinessPlan priceFrom $199 billed yearly30 users included, then $5 to $6 per additional user, plus 2 cents per update over 5,000
GlideOS ProPlan price$125, starting at 5 membersGlideOS is a separate product from Glide Classic
Bubble Team (web and mobile)Priced per app$549 billed annually ($649 monthly) per appIncludes 5 app editors (Growth includes 2); workload units included, with overage billed per extra 1,000
FlutterFlow Business$150 + 2 x $85$320Activity logging is Enterprise only

A note on fairness: these tools do different jobs. Some are built for developers, some for public websites, some for internal tools. The tables compare cost for the same team, not overall quality.

What happens when the team grows

The 10-person team will not stay 10 people. Here is what happens to the platforms with per-user charges if the company grows to 20 people and still has 3 builders, so 17 app users.

Platform10 people (3 builders)20 people (3 builders)Change
FORGE$147$147No change: app users are free
Retool Business (billed annually)$255$405 (3 x $50 + 17 x $15)Up $150 a month
Power Apps Premium$200$400 (20 x $20)Doubles
AppSheet Core$100$200 (20 x $10)Doubles

For Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit and Base44, no per-user charge is listed for app users, so the base price for builders would not change with headcount. Usage-based charges may rise if the apps themselves use AI features or draw on hosting.

The costs the price page leaves out

Usage beyond the allowance

Credits, tokens and workload units are used by every AI attempt, including the ones where the AI fixes its own mistakes. How much you use depends on what you build and how often the AI has to try again. Vercel, for example, moved v0 to usage metered on input and output tokens in May 2025. Plan for a buffer and set a cap. Our guide to why AI app builders burn through credits explains the mechanics.

The plan you actually need

If your IT lead needs single sign-on, automatic user provisioning or audit logs, the real price is the plan that includes them. On several platforms in the tables above, that is the Enterprise tier, priced through sales.

Time spent fixing

AI output is often almost right. In the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, 66 percent of developers named "AI solutions that are almost right, but not quite" as their top frustration, and 45 percent said debugging AI-generated code takes more time. Every hour a builder spends coaxing the AI through a fix is an hour of payroll that never appears on the software bill.

Rollout and adoption

A tool nobody uses costs the full price and returns nothing. Budget time for training and a pilot. Our guide to preventing surprise AI software bills covers the controls to put in place from day one.

An example: a busy launch month

Here is a worked example of how one month can differ from the base price, using FORGE's listed pricing because its units can be counted in advance.

Say the 3 builders spend their first month replacing several spreadsheets and group texts, and the team needs 15 builds. The 3 seats include 9 builds. One pack of 10 extra builds is $150. The month costs $147 plus $150, or $297, and admins can cap pack use so it never goes further than the team decides. If any build had failed, it would have cost nothing. In a quieter month the bill goes back to $147.

On a credit or token plan, the same month is harder to predict, because the cost depends on how many attempts the AI needs for each tool. That is not a reason to avoid those tools. It is a reason to set a cap and alerts before the busy month starts, not after.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. What do the 7 people who only use the apps cost, now and if we double?
  2. What is included in the base price, in units we can count?
  3. What happens at the limit: does work stop, do you ask us, or does it bill automatically?
  4. Do the AI's failed attempts count against our allowance?
  5. Which plan includes the security and admin features our IT lead requires?
  6. Is there anything else that draws on the same balance, such as hosting or AI features inside apps?

How this compares to hiring

For context, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the median annual wage for software developers was $135,980 in May 2025, roughly $11,300 a month before benefits, taxes and equipment. Every platform in this guide costs a small fraction of that for a 10-person team. The real comparison is not software versus a developer. It is which platform gets your team real, safe, working tools with the least surprise.

How to run the numbers for your own team

  1. Count your builders and app users. Be realistic about how many people will build.
  2. List the tools you expect to build in the first six months.
  3. Price each vendor's plan using the math above, including app users where they pay.
  4. Add the tier you need for security and admin features.
  5. Add a usage buffer for credit or token plans, and set a cap.
  6. Run it again for the team you expect in a year.
  7. Ask each vendor what happens at the limit: stop, ask or bill automatically.

How FORGE handles it

FORGE is priced for exactly this kind of team, with costs a finance lead can forecast in one sentence.

  • $49 a seat a month for each person who builds, with 3 builds a month included. For 3 builders, that is $147 a month and 9 builds.
  • App users are free. The 7 people who only use the tools cost nothing, and neither do the next 10 you hire.
  • Changes are a small fraction of a build and only count when something actually changes.
  • Extra builds come in packs of 10 for $150. Your team can share one company pool or give each seat its own allowance.
  • A build FORGE fails is free.
  • Caps and alerts. Admins can cap pack use, and owners get alerts at 80 and 100 percent. Nothing ever bills by itself.
  • Everything included. Every app lives inside your company, people join only by invite, four roles are enforced, every piece is checked for security before it is saved, and every step is recorded. Web, mobile and desktop apps.
  • Onboarding by our team, starting with a workflow workshop on your real work. Most teams have their first real tool the same day.

Questions people ask

How much does an AI app builder cost for a small team?

For a team with 3 builders and 7 app users, listed base prices in October 2026 run from about $25 a month for a shared-credit plan to several hundred dollars for platforms that charge per user. Usage beyond the included credits or tokens, and the plan tier needed for security features, can raise the real cost.

Why do the people who only use the apps matter so much?

Because on some platforms they cost money. Power Apps, AppSheet and Retool charge for the people who use apps, and Softr caps app users per plan. On a 10-person team, 7 app users can cost more than the 3 builders.

Are credit-based AI builders cheaper?

Their starting prices are often lower, and several list no per-seat charge. But credits and tokens are used up by every AI attempt, including fixes, so the real monthly cost depends on how much building you do and how often the AI has to try again.

What costs are not on the pricing page?

Usage beyond the allowance, the higher plan needed for single sign-on or audit logs, hosting and AI features inside apps that draw on the same balance, add-ons like storage, and the time your people spend fixing what the AI got almost right.

How does cost change as the team grows?

On per-user platforms, every new app user adds to the bill. On platforms that charge only builders, adding app users costs nothing. Run the numbers for the team you expect in a year, not just today.

Is an AI platform cheaper than hiring a developer?

For most small teams, yes. The US median annual wage for software developers was $135,980 in May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, before benefits and other employment costs. Even the higher platform prices in this guide are a fraction of that.

What does FORGE cost a 10-person team?

With 3 builders, FORGE is $147 a month: 3 seats at $49, with 3 builds each included, so 9 builds a month. The 7 app users are free. Extra builds come in packs of 10 for $150, a build FORGE fails is free, and nothing ever bills by itself.
