Glide and Softr are approachable no-code builders for apps on top of your data, and both price with your users in mind: Softr caps the people who can log in on each plan and bills extra app users monthly on Pro and above, and Glide Classic Business includes 30 users and charges $5 to $6 for each additional one. Prompt-first AI builders like Lovable, Bolt and Replit list no per-user charge for app users but meter AI work in credits or tokens. For employee tools that the whole staff will use, FORGE pairs plain-words building with free app users and $49 builder seats with 3 builds.
Employee tools have a particular shape. A small group builds them, and a much larger group uses them every day: the crew that logs hours, the staff who request time off, the technicians who submit job reports, the managers who approve purchases. Get the tool right and the whole company runs smoother. Get the pricing wrong and the tool becomes too expensive to give to the people it was built for.
Glide and Softr are two of the most approachable no-code builders for this kind of app. A newer wave of AI app builders, including Lovable, Bolt and Replit, promises to skip the builder entirely: describe the app and get it. This guide compares all three approaches for employee tools, using vendor pricing pages as listed in October 2026 and published, attributed research.
What makes an employee tool different
Three things separate an employee tool from a customer-facing app or a prototype.
- Many users, few builders. The ratio might be one builder for every ten or twenty users. Any pricing tied to users dominates the bill.
- Real people's records. Hours, pay, home addresses, reviews, customer jobs. Privacy is not optional.
- Turnover. Employees join and leave every month. Adding and removing access has to be simple, and the tool has to keep working after its builder moves on.
Keep those three in mind as you read the comparisons below. They explain most of the trade-offs.
Glide
What it is built for
Glide builds apps on top of your data, without code, for teams that want something simple running quickly. As of October 2026, Glide runs two separate products, and it is important to know which one you are looking at.
GlideOS
According to Glide's pricing page, GlideOS is a standalone product, completely separate from the original Glide platform, with its own plans and pricing. As listed in October 2026:
- GlideOS starts at $25 a month.
- GlideOS Pro is $125 a month, starting at 5 members.
- SSO (one company login for every tool) and audit logs (a record of who changed what) are Enterprise only.
No per-user charge for app users is listed on GlideOS.
Glide Classic
Glide Classic remains available with its own plans. As listed on Glide's Classic pricing page in October 2026, Business starts at $199 a month billed yearly, with 30 users included, $5 to $6 for each additional user, and 2 cents per update over 5,000.
For an employee tool, that pricing has two moving parts: headcount past 30, and how often people change data. A busy timesheet app used by 60 people moves both.
Softr
What it is built for
Softr builds apps and portals on top of your data, without code. Teams use it both for portals that customers log in to and for tools their own staff use.
What it costs and who pays
Softr charges by app users. According to its pricing page, each plan caps the people who can log in to your apps, and extra app users are billed monthly on Pro and above. As listed in October 2026:
- Pro is $99 a month billed yearly, or $119 billed monthly.
- Business is $329 a month billed yearly, or $395 billed monthly.
- SSO, SCIM and audit logs are Enterprise only. SCIM is the standard that adds and removes people automatically when they join or leave your company directory.
Softr is clear about the model. For employee tools, the practical step is to check your full headcount against each plan's app-user cap before you build, so rollout does not trigger a plan change.
AI app builders
What they are built for
Prompt-first AI builders turn a plain description into a working app. They are fast and flexible, and they are often used for customer-facing products, prototypes and experiments as well as internal tools.
What they cost and who pays
None of the following lists a per-user charge for app users on its pricing page as of October 2026. Each meters AI work instead.
- Lovable does not charge per seat; workspaces support unlimited members and plans are priced by credits. Business starts at $50 a month for 100 credits ($42 billed annually), and one balance pays for building, hosting and AI features inside your apps.
- Bolt lists Pro at $25 a month starting at 10 million tokens and Teams at $30 per member per month, with tokens not shared between members.
- Replit lists Core at $20 a month ($18 annually) and Pro at $100 a month ($90 annually). Its Pro documentation says there are no per-user fees and up to 15 builders can work on one plan.
- Base44 lists annual pricing of $16 to $160 a month across four plans, with 100 to 1,200 message credits.
Admin and security tiers
SSO and audit logs are Enterprise features at Bolt and Replit. Lovable lists SSO from Business, with SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise.
What the research shows
AI builders make it easy to publish an app, and that is where problems have appeared. Escape analyzed over 5,600 vibe-coded apps (apps built mostly by describing them to an AI) and found more than 2,000 vulnerabilities and 400+ exposed secrets, it reported in October 2025. RedAccess reported in May 2026 that it reviewed about 380,000 vibe-coded assets; about 5,000 were built for corporate purposes, and 40% of those exposed sensitive data.
Platforms have had their own issues too. Lovable says a February 2026 regression exposed public projects' chat history and source code from February 3 to April 20, 2026, and that it fixed the issue within two hours of the public report. In July 2025, Wiz found a Base44 flaw that let anyone with a public app ID register on private apps, bypassing SSO; Wiz reported it fixed in under 24 hours, with no evidence of exploitation. For an employee tool holding hours, pay or personal details, the lesson is to choose a platform where apps are private to your company from the start.

A worked example: one employee tool for 60 people
This is an example using list prices only. A 60-person landscaping company wants a crew timesheet and equipment checkout app. Three people will build and maintain it: the office manager, the operations lead and the owner. All 60 employees will log in daily to clock hours and check out equipment.
- Glide Classic Business: $199 a month billed yearly covers 30 users. The other 30 employees cost $5 to $6 each, or $150 to $180 a month more. With 60 people logging hours daily, check how many updates that produces: each one beyond 5,000 a month costs 2 cents.
- Softr: the plan has to cover 60 people who log in. Check whether Pro at $99 or Business at $329 billed yearly includes that many app users, and price the extras billed monthly.
- An AI builder: no per-user charge is listed, so the 60 employees add nothing directly. The cost is the AI metering during building and changes, which varies with how many attempts the AI needs, and on Lovable, hosting draws on the same credits.
- FORGE: three builder seats at $49 is $147 a month with 9 builds included. All 60 employees use the app free, however often they clock in.
How to choose: a checklist for employee tools
- Count builders and users separately. For employee tools, users usually outnumber builders ten to one or more.
- Price your full headcount. Use the real number of people who will log in, not the starter plan.
- Ask what else is metered. Updates, credits, tokens or builds. Find out which grows with daily use.
- Confirm apps are private to your company by default. Employee data should never be one shared link away from the internet.
- Plan for turnover. Ask how quickly you can remove someone's access, and whether you need SSO or SCIM to do it, and on which tier.
- Ask who checks the app before people rely on it. Security and quality checks should run automatically.
- Ask who helps your team build the first tool. Onboarding by the vendor beats a help center.
- Pilot with one crew for a week, then roll out to everyone.
Why this matters now
Employees are already reaching for AI on their own. As of May 2026, Gallup reports that 15% of U.S. employees use AI daily in their role and 30% use it a few times a week or more. If the company's own tools are hard to build or too expensive to give to everyone, people improvise. A platform that makes good employee tools easy to build and free to use keeps that energy inside the company.
How FORGE handles it
FORGE is built for exactly the shape of an employee tool: a few builders, many users, real records. The person who knows the work describes it in plain words. A panel of top AI models plans the tool, a dedicated AI crew builds it, and every piece is checked for quality and security before it is saved. The tool is checked at every step. Most teams have their first real tool the same day, as a web, mobile or desktop app, so crews can use it from a phone in the field.
Every app lives inside your company. Access is invite-only, with owner, admin, builder and app user roles. When someone joins, an admin invites them; when they leave, an admin removes them, and the tools keep working for everyone else. FORGE keeps a complete record of who did what.
Pricing follows the people who build. A builder seat is $49 a month with 3 builds included. A change is a small fraction of a build and only counts when something actually changes. Packs of 10 builds cost $150, from a company pool or per seat, and admins can cap pack use. Every employee who uses the apps is free, no matter how many people you have or how often they use them. A build FORGE fails is free, owners get alerts at 80 and 100 percent, and nothing ever bills by itself.

Questions people ask
Is Glide or Softr better for employee apps?
Both work well for simple apps on top of a data source. The deciding factor is often how many employees will log in: Softr caps app users on each plan and bills extras monthly on Pro and above, while Glide Classic Business includes 30 users and charges for each additional one. GlideOS, Glide's newer product, lists no per-user charge.
What is the difference between GlideOS and Glide Classic?
According to Glide's pricing page, GlideOS is a separate product from Glide Classic, with its own plans and pricing. GlideOS starts at $25 a month, and Glide Classic Business starts at $199 a month billed yearly.
Do AI app builders charge for employees who use the apps?
Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit and Base44 list no per-user charge for app users on their pricing pages as of October 2026. They meter AI building work in credits or tokens instead.
Which of these include SSO and audit logs?
As listed in October 2026, SSO and audit logs are Enterprise only on GlideOS, and SSO, SCIM and audit logs are Enterprise only on Softr. Among AI builders, Bolt and Replit list SSO and audit logs on Enterprise, and Lovable lists audit logs on Enterprise.
Are AI-built employee apps secure?
They can be, when the platform enforces privacy and checks for you. Published research has found exposed data in many publicly reachable AI-built apps, so choose a platform that keeps apps inside your company and checks every piece before it goes live.
How does FORGE price employee tools?
FORGE is $49 a seat a month for each person who builds, with 3 builds included and packs of 10 builds for $150. Every employee who only uses the apps is free, and a build FORGE fails is free.
